The Importance Of Membership!
SAFA is an organisation formed and managed by its members. It provides the framework that lets us fly in accordance with national laws and regulations, and it satisfies our obligations to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).
SAFA provides a range of services whether we are flying a lot, or a little. Without member subscriptions we couldn’t continue to provide the framework and services to our members.
Pilot certificates and other authorisations expire and are invalid without current membership.
Pilot certificates and other authorisations are required by Commonwealth law to operate our aircraft.

Membership Fees
The total annual membership fee = SAFA member’s fee + Regional Development Levy (RDL) (varies by Region).
SAFA – Annual SAFA membership fees are set by the board. Absent board direction, fees are adjusted in accordance with the trailing CPI on 1st September each year.
RDL – The levy is usually set by the members or by the committee of the Regional Association of your residence. SAFA does not set the levy amounts. See the fee schedule for details.
The RDL is used for projects such as site development & maintenance, site access leases & permits, pilot development, equipment, events and other programs.
Contact your Regional Association for a description of the objects, purposes and uses of RDL and how members or clubs can apply for funding.
Aircraft Fees
Aircraft over 70 kg (e.g., usually dual seat Weightshift Microlights or Powered Paragliders) are required to be listed (aka ‘registered’). Listing fees are separate from membership annual fees.
