SAFA Prestige Awards

SAFA Prestige Awards are issued to recognise those select few, those unique members that stand above others, those who have contributed to our Sports over a long time. They are outstanding through their competitive sporting achievements that have raised the sport’s profile or, most importantly, their significant contributions to its running, growth or development.

Bill Moyes Sports Contribution Award

Recognises long-term outstanding & significant voluntary contributions to the sports in any area. e.g. Safety management, site design/use/management, operations control, programs for increasing membership or participation or retention or pilot development, competition management or Sports Infrastructure development.

Steve Moyes Sporting Achievement Award

Recognises an outstanding national and international competitive sporting career in the sports.

John Dickenson Innovation Award

Recognises original innovations in any facet of the sports; E.g safety management, site design/use/management, operations control, programs for increasing membership or participation or pilot development or retention, competition, sports infrastructure development, equipment design or development.

George & Margaret Bignell Instructor Award (Instructor of the year)

Recognises the best instructor of the year.

Steve Hocking Outstanding Contribution Award

Recognises long term service of at least 10 yrs for outstanding voluntary service & contributions to the administration or organisation or running of an affiliated entity.

Prestige Awards Nomination Process

SAFA Prestige Awards are issued to recognise those select few, those unique members that stand above others, those who have contributed to our Sports over a long time. Bill Moyes Sports Contribution, John Dickenson Innovation, and Steve Hocking Outstanding Contribution Awards

The SAFA Board, or an affiliated entity (signed by two executive members), can nominate a member for this award. Individuals can receive this award once only. The nomination must be in writing and include names and other details of the nominators, the nominee’s history and statements that detail the contributions to the sports that satisfy the award recognition. The SAFA Board has sole discretion to approve or reject the award. Award recipients will be inducted into the SAFA Hall of Fame.

Steve Moyes Sporting Achievement Award

Nominated by the Competitions Committee only. No more than one member can be nominated per year, per cadre*. Individuals can receive this award once only per cadre. The nomination must be in writing, include a history of the nominee’s outstanding sporting achievements over at least 10 years, and be suitable for publication. The SAFA Board has sole discretion to approve or reject the award. Award recipients will be inducted into the SAFA Hall of Fame.

*cadre. i.e. Hang gliding, Weightshift microlighting, Paragliding, Powered paragliding etc.)

George & Margaret Bignall Instructor Award

Nominated by Safety & Training Committee only. No more than one instructor can be nominated per year. Individuals can receive this award multiple times. Nominations must be in writing and include a short statement of the nominees achievements in the previous year. The SAFA Board has sole discretion to approve or reject the award.

Hall of Fame Induction Process

  1. Publication of award recipients in SAFA social and other media (‘which award, who to, when, what they achieved)
  2. Listed in Hall of Fame on SAFA website (which award, who to, when)
  3. Recognition award
